Oh the glamour! Huge, exquisite flowers on tall stems fill the home with beauty and joy. Glowing like the botanical celebrities that they are, Amaryllis come in a variety of bloom colors and patterns. In the Victorian language of flowers, Amaryllis means love, beauty, and determination.
These plants are already potted up, and make lovely, elegant gifts - many of our customers love to give these as special hostess gifts, or to add to their own personal collections. Nothing like gorgeous flowers in the home for years to come!
2 wonderful types to choose from:
🌸Apple Blossom Amaryllis - Huge flowers with a lovely variegated pattern of pure white to pink pointillism, sometimes aging to a rich red.
🌸Red Lion Amaryllis - Classic, gigantic flowers with a rich, ruby red coloration.
With appropriate care, Amaryllis can live for many years.
Easy Care! A sunny windowsill in a cool location is ideal.
- Keep moist but not overly wet - usually once a week is adequate.
- Avoid watering over the nose of the bulb.
- Keep the plants in a location where the temperature is around 65-70F degrees.
After flowering begins, keep out of direct sunlight and in a cool area to help prolong bloom.
For reflowering: In future years, as the leaves begin to yellow in late summer, gradually cut back on water until the leaves fade completely and the soil is dry. Bring back inside and store in a cool, dark location where the temperature stays between 40-55F degrees. Do not water during this time.
After about two months of rest, water the soil and set the container in a sunny area and resume normal care.
Plant Nerd: Amaryllis in cultivation are hybrids of Amaryllis belladonna, which are native to sunny, warm, dry, rocky areas of South Africa. In the wild, they are pollinated by hawk moths and carpenter bees. Deer and other wildlife tend to avoid these plants; Amaryllis are not edible.
Interestingly, Amaryllis contain compounds that can help fight malaria.
