Discover the beauty of American Beautyberry, with stunning metallic purple (and we mean PURPLE) berries in fall!
Most of our plants currently have some colorful (or soon to be) berry clusters at the bottom of their stems, and many have put on a fresh set of flowers that will also turn to berries!
These WNC native deciduous shrubs have a loose, open habit and are gorgeous when massed. For those with limited space, these also make superb specimens. Durable and low maintenance, they are ideal for many garden locations. They also provide an essential food source that attracts birds and other wildlife, supporting a vibrant and healthy ecosystem in your garden.
Once established, these plants can handle dry soil, wet soil, and drought. Use them in native gardens, pollinator gardens, rain gardens, edible gardens, butterfly gardens, woodland gardens, and more!
🐦Help birds! According to the Audubon Society, they help feed and attract Cardinals, Chickadees, Jays, Mockingbirds, Nuthatches, Blackbirds, New World Sparrows, Thrushes, Vireos, Waxwings, Wood Warblers, Wrens and more to the garden.
🦋Help funky moths! In NC, these are the host plants for at least 4 moth species, including the very aesthetic Rustic Sphinx Moth.
🫙Edible berries can be used to make jellies, jams, and wines.
🫚Healing properties: These plants have a long history of herbal usage involving their roots, stems, and leaves.
🍃Deter mosquitoes: Crushed foliage can deter mosquitos - farmers used to place them under harnesses of horses and mules. Research has since found multiple mosquito-repelling compounds in the leaves.
