Camellias are lovely, low maintenance evergreen shrubs with beautiful flowers and handsome foliage. Native to East Asia, they have been cherished and collected by US gardeners since the 1700s.
Welcome spring with the always beautiful though mildly unpredictable 'Spring Circus'! The enchanting 3-4" flowers are usually a pretty pink with a single anemone form, however colors, patterns, and forms may vary. Delightful blooms appear March - April, nestled in pleasing glossy green foliage.
'Spring Circus' is an exceptionally cold-hardy Camellia. They are most impressive when massed as foundation plants, or as a blooming evergreen hedge, but can also be used as specimens or accents in smaller spaces or beds.
Camellias prefer morning sun and afternoon shade. Protect from winter winds. They are happiest in fertile, acidic, moist, well-draining soil. Espoma Holly Tone is an excellent organic fertilizer choice for Camellias.
🦌Deer generally avoid Camellias.

Plant Nerd: Camellia 'Spring Circus' is a seedling of Camellia japonica 'Lady de Saumarez' x C. oleifera, and was released in 1996. It was bred by the late Dr. William Ackerman, a famous Camellia breeder who worked at the US Arboretum in Ashton, Maryland with a focus on breeding wonderful Camellias with remarkable cold hardiness.
