Enjoy spectacularly puffy flowers on Puffer Fish® Hydrangeas!
Puffer Fish® panicle hydrangeas have phenomenal fluffy white blooms that engulf the entire plant, nearly obscuring the foliage in mature plants. The flowers open as a beautiful, pure white bloom, and as they age, turn lime green with a fresh sprig of white flowers blooming at the tip of the panicle. Puffer Fish Hydrangeas have a tight, compact growing habit with upright stems strong enough to hold their voluptuous blooms all season long (July - October here in WNC).
Perfect cut flowers, they are also fantastic for low, flowering hedges. These sturdy, resilient, low maintenance plants are tolerant of urban conditions.
They are ideal in Asian gardens, children’s gardens, cottage gardens, cutting gardens, pollinator gardens, and more!
These plants were bred down in Mills River, about 30 miles south of here, by the incredible Tom Ranney with NCSU. The sale of every plant goes to support NCSU horticultural students.
Full sun to partial shade. Best flowering in full sun (6-8 hours).
3-5'T x W.
Zones 3-8, cold hardy down to -40F.

💚Plant Nerd: Soil pH doesn't impact their bloom colors.
Hydrangea paniculata plants bloom on new wood. They can be pruned back by 1/3 late winter or early spring to ensure maximum blooms in the coming season.
